Space before equipment

Distances decide what you can shoot

Every studio problem we are called about comes back to distance. Not enough depth to light a background separately, not enough room behind the camera for a long lens, not enough height to get a light above the subject. None of these are solved by better fixtures. They are solved on a drawing, before the lease is signed if possible, and by moving the shooting area rather than buying more equipment.

Fix rails to the structure

Ceiling rail systems get fixed to whatever is convenient, which is often plasterboard with a hopeful anchor. It holds until someone hangs a third roll. Fixing to the structure costs a little more on the day and removes an entire category of problem, including the one where a backdrop comes down mid-shoot with clients in the room.
